the doctor's thoughts .........
I have delivered a couple of hundred babies. All of them were beautiful beings, happy in themselves, living in the present moment, demanding only of their immediate needs .... food, warmth, love. None of them doubted or feared life. This is who we really are .. a beautiful being, a soul self , a deep pool of peace overflowing with love and joy, always accessible to ourselves throoughout our lifetime. But very quickly after our birth we start to pick up doubts, fears, hurts which taint our view of life. We build up defences to protect us from further hurt. We begin to believe what others say of us and feel self doubt. We begin to do things that others expect of us and so drift away from our own true path and purpose. To soften this loss we need to feel recognition, that we matter. This is how our ego self develops. We lose sight of who we really are. We do not know ourselves. If we are fortunate enough to have a calm and highly present center, a part of us that says “I am and I am OK,” then this can quiet the ego. It can ease the doubts and fears, it can lessen the demands of the ego. It is important that at times we can reach our calm and present soul self and let it fill us, instead of listening always to the demands of that insatiable ego self.
But there are many joys of the ego self and of the physical self. And life is about balance. We need to allow ourselves to live, to adventure, to dare, to go out and do things and live vibrantly, but not to be desperate about it, not to be attached to the result, not needing the external recognition and acceptance, for it is already there, deep within us, and that is the peace, joy and love which are our being, always and ever.
We need to learn to control our ego self, to know that we are complete whatever we do, that we are OK no matter what others do think, to be able to feel our inner peace, to get our mind to quiet down, learning to go beyond the emotional triggers and buttons which our ego has established through our lifetime and come down into the peaceful center which is the true soul self.
And once you learn to do this, once you learn to step aside and just see when your ego is acting up, like a naughty little child, you can then choose not to act on what it says; you can choose instead to act from the peaceful, loving self and enjoy the part of your ego and physical self which you care to.
