coloured glasses

Everyone wears glasses, with which we see life through,

That narrows and blinkers our vision, and taints and colours our view.

Some see life from the front, whilst others see life from the side,

Some see life narrowly, whilst others see it wide.

Some see life in greens and reds, whilst others see life in blues.

Some see life in other colours that only they will choose.

So as we form our view of life please consider and please know,

The way we think we see life, for some may not be so.

the doctor's thoughts .........

Our stress levels are commonly elevated by our intolerance of others.  We see everything through our own point of view and frequently fail to realise that what we see is not always true and that others may see it from a completely different perspective, based on their upbringing and life experience.

"We don't see things as they are, we see them as we are"  Anais Nin

Any detective will tell you that two people may witness the same event yet give completely different accounts.  We need always to be aware that our account is not what happened, it is just how we saw it, tainted by our interpretation based on our viewpoint and experience.

A recent magazine article pointed out that if you had recently followed the Iraq war by watching the Americal CNN and the Egyptian Algerceries news you might think that there had been two completely different wars waged.

But it just does not affect major events.  Everything that we see and think is coloured by our own perspective that we develop from out parents, peers, schooling, culture ........  what has been termed our "tribe".  Someone brought up in a mountain village in Afghanistan with no electricity or running water  will view life very differently from someone brought up in the suburbs of Sydney, Australia.  I discovered this first hand when I worked in Afghanistan in 2000.

One lesson that this has taught me is to listen and to try to understand anothers thoughts and opiniions before  forming my own opinion.  I am constantly being humbled by suddenly gaining new perspectives and awareness of situations that I had never considered.  I am constantly seeing new viewpoints that make me realise how limited my thoughts can be.  The more I listen, the more I change my point of view.
