daily pause
Wherever we go,
Whatever our cause,
Whoever we want to be,
We need to slow
Each day and pause
To review our life’s journey
To appreciate
What often’s blind
And consolidate our self
To meditate,
Rest our mind
And exercise our health.
To reflect our goals,
Plan our way,
Or just take time out ten.
To ease our souls
Let fears allay
It doesn’t matter when.
It need only be
A brief moment
To let the calm descend
It will set free
And make potent
Our intention to the end.
So stop business
Some time each day
To settle and be still.
It soothes the stress,
Opens the way,
To stay peaceful and tranquil.

the doctor's thoughts ..........
Working in Afghanistan, a very strict Muslim country, was a revelation to me. All the national staff would stop whatever they are doing to pray five times a day. I often had to stop a meeting or a break a journey to accommodate their needs so found myself with time to pause, be quiet and be still. After a while I began to realise how beneficial these “still moments” were and I started to make them a routine in my day. The habit of briefly stopping all work, turning off outside clutter, allows us to listen to our bodies. It directs us to reflect on our purpose, our plan, our appreciation of what we have. It stabilises our physiology. It recharges, realigns and relaxes.
