do not be an island

Do not be an island. Don’t be a solo act.

Don’t live all alone,  mix and interact.

Have a special partner with whom you closely share.

Do not live life singly, be half a loving pair.

Honour all your family whether near or living far.

They will give you true support, a love-filled reservoir.

Have a friendship circle with whom you socialise

To talk and free your feelings and keep laughter in your eyes.

Be part of a community where you feel that you belong,

For communal living will let your life prolong.

Relationships are vital for a successful life to start,

They let you shine and grow well by opening up your heart.

the doctor’s thoughts ….......

In my practice I see so many lonely people. I believe that their lonliness  is a major factor in many of their diseases. The old proverb, "a problem shared is a problem halved, a joy shared is joy doubled" rings much truth.
Do you have any intimacy in your life?   Do you ever share your innermost thoughts?  Do you expose your secret fears?  Are you close to your family?  Do you have fun with friends?  Do you feel that you belong to any community?

There are numerous studies demonstrating that having meaningful relationships is linked with longevity, happiness and health.  There are even more studies showing that loneliness leads to depression, anxiety and illness.  I believe having meaningful relationships in your life is essential to having a successful life.

Maybe it is related to the ability to release stress whilst interacting with other people.  Maybe it is the feeling of safety and support whilst being with loving people.  I believe that it is being able to open your heart to others assists you to open it up to yourself, letting you be your real authenticate self, allowing you to find your internal power.

Opening up your heart takes courage.  It initially makes you feel vulnerable and weak.  But it is only when you do it, when  you expose and confront your fears that you discover that they are not as terrible as you thought.  It allows you to slowly accept yourself for who you really are.  Once you discover this, self acceptance and your internal power grows then your vulnerability vaporises, your apparent weakness dissolves, you feel strong and resilient.
