it's all in your mind

If you think you can’t do it, you can’t.

If you think it won’t work, it won’t.

If you think you aren’t worthy, you aren’t.

If you think you don’t matter, you don’t.

If you think you’re OK, you’re OK.

If you think you’re the best, you’re the best.

If you think there’s a way, there’s a way.

If you think that you’re blessed, then you’re blessed.

What we think is what we get.

And from these lessons we find,

Nothing is final, nothing is set.

It’s all in the state of your mind.

the doctor's thoughts ..........

In over twenty years in general practice I have repeatedly observed that the experiences in a patient’s life always reflected their underlying belief systems and thinking patterns. It was as if each person had their own story line and that they continued to live up to, or down to, their story. There appeared to be an undeniable law of attraction at work.

"If you accept a limiting belief, then it will become a truth for you."   -- Louise Hay

Only when a patient was ready and willing to let go of their story - and all the limiting beliefs and assumptions that went with it - did major life changes occur.

Witnessing this phenomena has made me very conscious of my own beliefs and thoughts.  I have been amazed at times to discover that my beliefs,  often gained from my childhood, have been so limiting.  Beliefs like:
"If you don't work hard for something then you don't deserve it"
"Life is usually tough and cruel and to survive you have to be untrusting and street wise"
"You need to excel in everthing that you do"
Our beliefs are usually formed after a life experience (good or bad), frequently in our earlier childhood (but not always)  when we tend to generalise and make our experience a "law of life" upon which we base our future actions.

Even when I gained insight into this way of thinking and started to identify many of my life limiting beliefs I struggled to try and change them.  You can tell yourself to think a different way until you are blue in the face but your thinking continues unchanged.  You can stare in a mirror and make affirmations until you are red in the face but nothing seems to change.  You can start to act differently trusting that your thinking will follow but it often does not and you lose face!

But I then discovered energy psychology.  In this fascinating field there are methods of emotional acupressure when, by tapping on specific points whilst making affirmations,  there can be an instant and palpable shift in your thinking.  I have used it on myself and on patients with remarkable results.
