musterbation

To be happy

I must be wealthy

I must be slim

I must be healthy

I must go to the gym

I must be pretty

I must be strong

I must be witty

I must live long

I must always win

I must be the best

I must have smooth skin

I must pass the test

I must be admired

I must lose weight

I must be desired

I must meditate

                        Ad nauseam

the doctor's thoughts .........

This poem could also be called “If only” but I preferred this title!

So many patients are worried, fearful and  anxious about what they don’t have.  They are always struggling to fulfill an expectation, to achieve a goal, to keep somebody else happy.  They are never content with who they are at that moment.  They lose their sense of what is important, their sense of humour, their common sense.  All the things that we desire may increase our comfort, increase our status and make our daily life a little easier for a time but deep happiness lies within us.  If we are always worrying about attaining something we will constantly be stressed and unhappy.

Rather that concentrate on want and neediness, why not focus on gratitude and giving. The more we chase something the more it will elude us.  The more we give the more will come to us.

"Those who are not looking for happiness are the most likely to find it,
because those who are seeking forget that the surest way to be
happy is to seek happiness for others."         Martin Luther King, Jr.
